Since the tremendous success of breakout film Get Out ($30.5M debut), the public has been awaiting the next highly anticipated project from producer/writer/director Jordan Peele. Well Peele has finally given us a light at the end of the tunnel. On Wednesday, he tweeted out the poster to his upcoming film, entitled Us along with the intended release date of March 2019.

While very little else has been revealed about it, we do know (or have heard the following):

  • It is the first film in Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions first-look deal with Universal
  • It is reportedly set to revolve around two couples; one white and one black
  • Black Panther and 12 Years a Slave Star, Lupita Nyong’o is allegedly set to star as one half of the black couple
  • Breakout Black Panther star, and every woman’s Trinidadian fantasy Winston Duke is rumored to have a role in the film
  • Elizabeth Moss, of Mad Men and The Handmaid’s Tale fame, is allegedly in negotiations to also star in the film
  • The released poster (see below) labels the film “A New Nightmare from The Mind of Academy Award Winner Jordan Peele”; which means we’ve got another psychological thriller on our hands

That’s pretty much all that’s been revealed about the film. Peele is staying pretty quiet about it. However in an interview, he did have this to say:

“One think I know is that this genre; and playing around with the thriller, horror, action, fun genre of intrigue is my favorite. That’s my sweet spot. So I think tonally it should resemble Get Out. That said, I want to make a completely different movie. I want to address something different than race in the next one.”

And unfortunately, this just opens the door to EVEN MORE questions. Like: if it’s not about race, what is it about? If it tonally resembles Get Out, but is a “different movie” will it still be unpredictable?

I don’t know about you, but we’re counting down the seconds to May 2019.
