Post Malone’s Trajectory to Rockstar Superstardom through Soundcloud

Soundcloud’s influence as a streaming platform marked the beginning of a new generation. Ever so often, people in our society tend to place these artists within one category. These artists, referred to as “Soundcloud rappers” developed through the openly attainable nature of the application. The ability to source your own music grants accessibility to anyone with means to equipment. Eventually, this led to a disparity between quality and mediocrity.

Soundcloud Effect

If Soundcloud awards were to exist, Post Malone would most likely top any list. Certainly, the majority of hip-hop fans have heard the platinum record, “White Iverson.” The issue became whether or not this song would propel Malone into stardom or one-hit-wonder land. As it turns out, Austin Post (Post Malone) is a flexible musician, and remains one of the most persuasive artists to date.

Early on, Malone’s parents influenced his awareness of different genres of music. Notably, rock ‘n’ roll music impacted the upbringing of this talented artist. Recently, his song featuring 21 Savage aptly titled, “Rockstar” became the No.1 song on Billboard Hot 100 in just its second week of existence. Some fans of Cardi B became skeptical of how she lost the throne within less than a month. The question comes down to the methods used to boost “Rockstar” into the top Billboard spot.

“Rockstar” Controversy

Technically, Republic Records and Malone’s team played within the rules of the game. Each “Rockstar” result on Youtube appeared identical at three minutes and thirty eight seconds. One video yields the actual song while the other only repeats the chorus in succession. The repetitive song accumulated an abundant 41 million streams.

“U.S. STREAMS FOR THAT CLIP DO CONTRIBUTE TO OUR SONGS CHARTS, THE SAME WAY AN INSTRUMENTAL TRACK OR A REMIX OF A SONG WOULD COUNT TOWARD THE MAIN SONG’S PLACEMENT IF DOWNLOADED OR STREAMED.” (BILLBOARD)

Considering this dynamic marketing ploy, Malone maintains his musical quality. It is difficult to argue with his response because the proof lies within his body of work. His song “Congratulations (feat. Quavo) from his first project, “Stoney” amassed quadruple platinum status. Malone’s presence continues to surface upon countless charts and his music amassed three billion streams to date.

Numbers Don’t Lie

The moral of the story remains that this artist attracts aggregate amounts of attention. Undeniably, Malone rose to superstar ranks within a very short time span. Thus far, “Rockstar” totaled 35 million streams on Spotify.

With the 90’s alt-rock covers, long hair, tattoos and killer fashion sense, it’s no wonder almost everyone relates to this recognizable figure.
